5 Common Strength Training Mistakes

There are two huge population booms for all fitness centers each year and that is in the Fall and in the Winter. (If you are interested, most exercise facilities experience a population drought during the middle of summer)
Around this time every year, the "smell" in the air changes. The humidity is replaced with a slight breeze, cravings for pumpkin arise, and "the nagging, not always a good memory, but gotta get it done so I'll look like a supermodel this year" family picture event for holiday cards arises... and THAT is what I want to talk about today.... this article is from ACE fitness.org. Enjoy!

Finding your way through the Labels!

Dieting, trying to eat healthy, or just shopping for the week, grocery shopping in the U.S. can be a real headache! We fought for options in what we buy and industry unloaded on us.
Take salad dressing for example, you have your choice between 6-7 non-organic brands and 4-5 organic brands. Each brand has at least 6 to a dozen options between vinaigrette, mayo based, low fat, fat free, sweet, savory, creamy, or natural. You have your choice of single serve, small, medium, spray, pour, squeeze... Have your eyes crossed yet?!
The point is that the food industry's creativity has almost optioned us out of even caring. Who hasn't just thrown their hands up and said, "I don't care.. what's cheaper?" Well, guess what.. the clean, fresh ingredients aren't usually the guys having the sale.
I have compiled some articles and helpful hints from those researchers who get their thrills from wading through the swamp of labels. I hope this post helps you on your next grocery store visit! Happy, healthy shopping!!

How do I lose weight?

.We had actual snow storms this past winter, tornado season was horrific, no one doubted that we were in for quite the summer. These temperatures with a 104 degree heat index isn't quite summer yet...

Summer solstice 2011 starts TOMORROW! It will officially be 'summer in the South USA' meaning the 98 degree temps and 104 heat index becomes the norm if not the (whisper) lows.

It means taking extra precaution for the dangerous 100 degree temperatures, accepting the obvious: that you will break a sweat walking from the front door to your car, and choosing the right sunscreen. (GMA news link)

Summer also brings the extra pressure of choosing a swimsuit... meaning the added pressure of weight loss..
Whether you want to lose the last 5 or 10 lbs. or you need to lose weight to be in the "healthy zone", the answers are all the same... lifestyle change.

Don't agonize, organize -Florynce R. Kennedy

Let's get something straight... I am not OCD, a clean freak, nor am I the girl who has an organized binder for everything she does arranged alphabetically on a pretty pink bookshelf straight out of Dolores Umbridge's office. (see Harry Potter Deathly Hallows part I if confused by the latter character reference)

Who am I? I am simply a girl who figured out long ago that making as detailed a schedule as I can for each day is the ONLY WAY I will get anything of substance done the following day.
How to get started? You are in luck!! I taught college freshmen this very same trick and we all know that if the common variety 18 year old can pick it up and USE it... let's just say I have every confidence in you!
